Biography
Myfanwy is a mixed media artist who began her career in the
mid seventies. She has always known that she wanted to be an
artist.
She was born into a large and eccentric South African family
who share a myriad of talents. She was schooled in South Africa,
attending Pretoria High School for Girls. After matriculating
she attended the Pretoria Technicon where she received a diploma
in fine arts with a major in painting.
She chose to take a ceramic technology course after college,
and taught ceramics for several years. She worked in the South
African state theater, known as P.A.C.T. as a painter, before
embarking on fairly extensive travels. During those travels
she studied and worked with some fine artists, learning all
the while.
She has gained widespread recognition both in Africa and the
United States. She has lived in New Mexico, Texas and California,
producing art and teaching, for a good few years. Showing in
galleries and showrooms through out the country, she has, and
is, collected by private and corporate entities, and continues
to produce, both for private commissions and retail galleries.
She has enjoyed several good working relationships with interior
designers. Bekker-Balajadiaís recent work entails her
continued fascination of the study of primitive/ancient truth
concepts, visually discussed by the marriage of hi tech media
and simple natural media. She has explored the world of furniture
design, executing many pieces shown, sold and commissioned.
She has produced clay pieces for a number of years, and enjoyed
great success with these.
She has mounted several one person shows, and most recently
works mainly on commissioned pieces.
She now travels between her house in Plettenberg Bay South Africa and the artists loft near Dallas.
